October 2022

He is the epitome of Alpha.

The masculinity that oozes from him is insane. He’s like a walking block of testosterone.

He’s also incredibly beautiful. Full lips, furrowed brow, dark skin, taut limbs. He moves through the restaurant with a predatory animalistic quality. Large strides, straight back, puffed out chest. If he’s on a mission make sure you get out of his way. The pace slows for no one and he’ll easily mow you down if you’re in his path.

He looks like he’s permanently pissed off. Always in a mood. It’s not so much a scowl that sits on the fine features of his face but underlying rage that at any point could burst out of him.

When I ask if he’s ok his replies are brief.

Sometimes a Yes, why?

Sometimes nothing.

Early on when I enquired what was wrong he told me

You’ll get used to it.

Get used to what?! I can’t work you out.

There’s rarely a smile or an interest in others. Small talk is none existent. Asking a lame question is met with a deepening of the brow and a heavy sigh through his nose.

I’m obsessed. I’ve never met anyone like him. Sometimes I find it hard to take my eyes and my mind off him.

He sat next to me once and smoked two cigarettes. Words voluntarily poured out of him and I listened, stunned, watching his every move. He didn’t ask me anything just spoke at me about his past relationships and the differences between how men think and how women think. I tried to interject by correcting him on how women think. He wasn’t having any of it. In all his 25 years of experience he knew better. I told him I was old enough to be his Mother.

Someone’s in a good mood

What do you mean? I’m always in a good mood

You might need to tell your face that on occasion.

I inform him he’s rude sometimes. That manners are free and please and thank you cost nothing. There’s a slight hesitation.
